ProteinTally answers one question about 796 foods: how much protein is in it. For each food it gives the protein in a realistic serving and per 100 g, the share of calories that protein supplies, and whether it is a complete protein. Ranked lists, side-by-side comparisons, a daily-target calculator and a tracker work from the same figures.
The person behind it
ProteinTally is built and run by a single independent developer. FiberTally, PantrySwap, LabVals and Matcha Almanac come from the same developer, and that is stated here so nobody has to guess. No clinic, hospital or dietetics practice is connected to any of them.
Where the numbers come from
Protein and calorie values are copied from USDA FoodData Central bulk downloads, and every food is tied to one FoodData Central record whose number is printed on that food's page. See the food index for the full list, or the rankings for the same data sorted.
Bylines, authorship and dates
The guides are published under the site's own name, and no individual is credited on any of them. Their structured data lists the ProteinTally organization as author. No dietitian or doctor is named anywhere here. The date on each guide changes only when its text does.
What this site cannot do
It cannot set a protein target that accounts for kidney or liver disease, pregnancy, an eating disorder or a prescribed diet; the calculator applies general per-kilogram ranges and knows nothing about your health. Values describe the USDA sample for each food, so a branded product, a different cut or another cooking method can differ, and the label on the package you are holding takes precedence.
